EDUCATIONAL AWARDS(cont'd) Since these awards have a focus on language and communication, weight will be given to well-written letter proposals (2-3 pages, plus attachments) that clearly outline the applicant’s intended course of study and the use to which the applicant plans to put the acquired knowledge and skills. Selection. Selection will be made by a three-member Educational Awards Committee and will be based in large part on the following factors: (a) the quality of the applicant’s letter proposal and ability to communicate; (b) the applicant’s background and qualifications; (c) the validity of the proposed program of study; and (d) the relevance of the applicant’s plans to put the acquired knowledge and skills to good use. If an award is granted, the amount will be determined largely by these factors as well. Accepted applicants will be notified in writing once a determination is made. Stipulations. Award recipients must submit a brief self-evaluation of progress half-way through the course of study and another self-evaluation upon completion. We also will ask that recipients supply a short follow-up report one year later. Should an award recipient fail to enroll or successfully complete the program for which the award was made, the recipient will be liable for repaying the full amount of the award. Once notification of an award is made, a contract to this effect will be sent to the applicant for completion and signing. Questions and requests for additional information can be sent to: benedictfoundation@att.net However, we require actual proposals to be in hard copy form. Be sure also to read the Guidelines (here)
